  • About ISRY

The Institute for the Study of Resilience in Youth (ISRY) is a research institute located at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Through conducting and disseminating actionable research, we support the well-being of young people and the adults who support them.

  • STEM Learning and Resiliency Skills

ISRY is a leader in the movement to connect science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and resiliency skills. To provide resources to all communities, our team creates evidence-based tools and frameworks to inform educators and education leaders about STEM learning as well as the resilience and mental health of their students.

  • Looking for help with program evaluation?

ISRY is experienced in formal and informal evaluations. We can help you with quality improvement for your work with youth and families. We also provide evaluations to grantmaking organizations, networks, and programs that seek to understand their outcomes and show results.

So every child can thrive.

ISRY was created to promote innovation in youth resiliency and education research. We support the health and well-being of young people through building resiliency and the lens of the Clover Model. Our whole-child approach informs every project we do.

Mission and Values

Integrating STEM and Resilience

ISRY supports youth development through connecting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and resilience. The development of skills that support healthy development and thriving can increase involvement in STEM by fostering relationships through role models and teamwork, building a sense of identity and belonging in STEM, and bringing personal meaning and relevance to STEM (Lyon, Jafri, & St. Louis, 2012; Noam & Shah, 2014).

Research

Translational research is an interdisciplinary field that incorporates a wide range of expertise, research, and resources to promote innovations in the field (Woolf, 2008). The approach has expanded to include education in recent years (Burden, Younie, & Leask, 2013). ISRY emphasizes translational research to help the latest findings on youth development reach educators and families.
