Family Engagement Tool

The STEM Family Engagement Planning Tool introduced a new framework for family engagement: CARE: Connect, Act, Reflect, and Empower. An overview of the CARE model is available here: CARE at-a-glance

The Planning Tool was designed for STEM-providing organizations in informal/OST STEM learning environments but may also be applied to formal school settings. The Planning Tool guides programs to empower families as partners in STEM learning and pathways.

The Planning Tool provides strategies, examples, and links to resources and references, all organized around the CARE domains and attributes, with each domain and attribute focusing on creating STEM family engagement experiences. The Planning Tool is intended to help program leaders and frontline staff think strategically about family engagement to support youth learning and success in STEM. For example, the Planning Tool includes a workbook that provides guided reflection to direct programs as they establish a strategic vision and plan for family engagement.
